Sand Sifting Sea Star

Introduction

The Sand Sifting Star moves around the top of the reefs substrate and will bury itself a few inches below the surface as well. It scavenges for uneaten food, microorganisms, detritus, and worms. It benefits from feedings of pieces of clam meat. Popular because it turns aquarium sand beds helping to keep them clean and free of detritus. Long term care can be challenging. These Stars tend to starve after a year or so. We advise no more than one per six square feet of sand surface area. Target feeding once per week or so can aid longevity.
